And the rest of the world will love us for it when prices double overnight.

My friend's brother bought one when he was in Japan for the military and is importing it here next year when they are legal. My mission: to convince him to let me drive it. Will I succeed? probably

I hope I can get my hands on an R33 before you Americans start ruining the prices on those too...

It's already pretty hard to find a nice V-Spec...

I know I've told this story on Oppo before, but since you're bringing up R-32s...

My fiancee had one when she lived in Japan for a few years.

She had no idea what it was that she had until I was telling her about an '87 GT-S that JDM Legends had that I was lusting over ( this little badass, here . Had I 18k, or access to said amount quick, it would have been an instant done-deal).

She said (paraphrasing) "Oh I had a Skyline when I was living in Japan, they're all over the place. It was a couple of years newer, 1992 I think. We used to have lots of those in our area back then, and lots of older ones too. Lemme see if I can find some pictures in my box of stuff from back then. I'm not sure which model it was, but it was two doors, kinda quick. It was a cute car, I liked it enough. Got it really cheap from a roommate who was moving back to the States because of a family emergency and couldn't take it with him; it was pretty I didn't have a car so I bought it."

She's one of those people to whom a car is more or less a fun appliance, definitely NOT an enthusiast (she definitely does NOT understand my attachment to my '85 Celica lol), so she didn't keep many pictures of her car. The one she had didn't tell me a whole lot, but what she was able to remember about the car told me enough to jump up and down screaming for five minutes doing my best Donkey Kong impression.

I then took the next ten minutes to explain my tantrum to her.

As far as I could tell from the picture and her description, she had an R32 GT-S, had no idea what it was, why it was desirable, or why we over on this side of the planet make such a big deal of them.

I told her I wanted one someday.

She said, "Meh, I wan't a MINI..."

To be totally honest, while I LOVE these cars in general, and would LOVE the opportunity to own an R-32, I would just as soon take that money and get a Hako or Kenmeri JDM Legends that's in decent shape and have them do an engine transplant (for MOAR POWWWWAAAARR, of course).

Lol Mini. GT-S? Awesome! Those old Skylines sure are something special.

FYI R32 is part of the VIN so there's no hyphen.

You mentioned this earlier, but I don't think you said it was a GT-S. Nice!

Yeah, I used to respond with "LOL Mini" but I don't like getting on her bad side hehe.

The longer she spends around me the more she "gets" the gearhead in me. She's still a long ways off from understanding "MOAR CAARS!" (I've been placed on a one-year probation from acquiring any more cars, hehe) or "MOOAAARR POWWAAAR" but that'll come with time. I just have to get her some seat time in a few truly awesome machines and let her go to town on a track.

I told her what I want for my birthday is for the two of us to do the whole "rent a supercar" thing that they do out at Miller Motorsports Park here in Utah, and she's pretty cool with that idea.

She's actually come a long way in the almost year and a half we've been living together. She'll even watch Top Gear with me (and goes out of her way to buy what she calls "James May shirts" for herself, lmfao).

She can even identify several enthusiast cars now, and even has developed a thing for Maseratis.

My fear is, though, that I will expose her too much, that she will catch the gearhead bug, cause this woman does nothing mediocre or halfway. She'd out-gearhead me!

I will have created a monster, an automotive Jurassic Park, where my passions will come back and eat me alive, lol.

I think I knew that deep down in the cesspool of my brain, but it's probably muscle memory from writing GT-S in reference to the Celica. :-P
